The UPSOM Dean's Summer Research Project (DSRP) is the major source of student stipend support for summer research activity. Funded primarily by the Dean and various NIH training grants, the DSRP is directed by Drs. Don DeFranco and Peter Veldkamp and coordinated through the Research Deans and the Office of Medical Student Research and International Studies.
Program requirements include:
1. Proposal submission and correspondence completed through a student portfolio on Navigator
2. Attendance at the DSRP Research Retreat half-day introductory workshop (June 6, 2023)
3. Attendance at the half-day DSRP Mid-Summer Research Gathering (July TBD, 2023)
4. Submit a one-page abstract of your summer project in mid-August
5. Present a poster at the DSRP Poster Symposium in the Fall (September 19 TBD 2023)
To participate in this program, students must first identify a faculty mentor and a research project and then develop a project proposal. Application deadline will be in March of MS1 Spring semester, with specific dates announced each year. All offers based on proposal merit will be made by the end of March. A stipend of $3,800 is provided for the eight-week program. Students are expected to work full time (40 hrs/wk) for 8 weeks on their projects.
